i realize the 757 is a sports car compared to a 747 but the 747 is faster, flies further and holds more people and payload. it can maintain substantial damage and still fly with 1 engine. i work the 747-8. it is a -400 on steroids. the gen-x engine is a great engine.

time and cycles (1 takeoff and landing=1 cycle). most components are life limited by either time, cycles or both.

In my opinion aircraft structure is counted by pressurization cycle.

Each time the aircraft pressurizes and depressurizes...it puts tremendous strain on the fuselage. If an aircraft cruises at 35,000 feet, the outside airpressure is about 1/3 of sea level. The interior will normally be pressurized to about 6-8 thousand feet.
